Public Talk: Conversations with Alice
Altes Finanzamt, Berlin (DE)
A round-table organized by curators Nicola Ricciardi and Carolina Jimenez with the support of Berlin’s Node Center for Curatorial Studies and featuring artists Mario Asef, Tinka Bechert, Felix & Mumford, Riccardo Previdi and Patrick Tuttofuoco.
The scope of the project was to investigate and stimulate a debate on today’s meaning of site-specific art and public interventions, and of the role of the artist and the curator in dealing with specific spaces. For this purpose, Node Center’s resident curators Carolina Jimenez and Nicola Ricciardi run a series of video interviews/ conversations with selected artists to hear from them on how they could imagine a site-specific exhibition in (or with) a particular space: a small, portable greenhouse, named Alice.
The video shows how artists responded to such an assignment and their different approaches to, and researches on, space. Furthermore, it underlines how a conversation about public art could also be very revealing about the relationship between artists and curators. A first version of the final video, directed and edited by Alessandro Pinferetti and Mattia Dal Bello, was presented and screened in May 2012 at Altes Finanzamt, Berlin.
